The Parable of the Tenants

The Parable of the Tenants

Matthew 21:33-41

Key verse 21:34

“When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.”

Read verses 33-34.  Why did the landowner plant a vineyard?  What steps did he take to ensure that his vineyard was fruitful?  Who did he put in charge of his vineyard?  Who is the landowner Jesus is talking about?  Who are the farmers or tenants?  What kind of fruit does God want to see from his children?

Read verses 35-39.  What did the tenants do to the servants who came to collect the fruit?  Who did the landowner send next?  What did the tenants do to these servants?  Who did the landowner send last of all?  What did the tenants do to the son?  Why did they kill the landowners son?  Who is the son of the landowner Jesus is talking about?

Read verses 40-41  What question did Jesus ask at the conclusion of his parable?  How did the religious leaders answer Jesus’ question?  In what way did they condemn themselves?
