Go and Make Disciples of All Nations

Matthew 28:1-20

Key Verses 28:19,20

19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Look at verse 1-4. Who came to the tomb and why? Who else was at the tomb at that time and what purpose did they play (Matthew 27:62-66)? What happened to the guards? Why did God make such a dramatic scene?

Look at verses 5-7. What good news did the angel tell the women? Of what did he remind them? What evidence did he show them? What message were they to deliver to the disciples? Why?

Look at verses 8-10. How did the women feel after leaving the tomb? What did they do? Describe their meeting with the Risen Jesus. What does it mean that they clasped his feet and worshiped him? How did he reassure them and what mission and promise did he reiterate?

Look at verses 11-15. What plot did the religious leaders make to conceal the fact of Jesus’ resurrection? How do their actions (also in 27:62-66) add proof to the resurrection fact?

Look at verses 16-20. Where did the eleven disciples go? Why? When they saw Jesus how did they respond? What does this show about the disciples? What authority did the Risen Jesus have? What does this mean to his disciples?

What was the mission Jesus gave his disciples? What does it mean to make disciples? Why is baptism important? What must we teach and how can we teach it? What promise did Jesus give his disciples/apostles? Why?
