Joshua 8:1-35
Key Verse: 8:1

"Then the Lord said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack Ai. For I have delivered into your hands the king of Ai, his people, his city and his land.'"

1.  What had happened previously when the Israelites had attacked Ai? What had they done about the sin in their midst? Read 8:1-2. What did God command and what did he promise? Why did they need to be encouraged to try again?

2.  Read verses 1-9. What was God's strategy for conquering Ai? Why should they take the whole army?

3.  Read verses 10-17. Where did Joshua position himself and the major part of the army? Where was the ambush placed? What did the king of Ai do when he saw Joshua's army in front of the city? How did Joshua lure all the men of Ai and Bethel to come out of their cities?

4.  Read verses 18-29. What was the signal for the men in ambush? How did they respond when Joshua pointed his javelin toward Ai? What did the soldiers of Ai do when they saw smoke? Describe the battle and its consequences. Why did Joshua keep on pointing his javelin?

5.  Read verses 30-35. Describe the Bible reading ceremony on Mount Ebal.  What did this mean? Why is it important to follow God's way and God's strategy? How can we know God's way?
