To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.(Jn 8:31)

Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(Mk 8:34)

  1. Who is a disciple in view of Jesus’ words (Mt 16:24, 28:19-20, Lk 14:33, Jn 8:31, 13:35, 15:8)? How is ‘disciple-making’ different from ‘disciplining’?

  2. Do you find discipleship in the Old Testament? Why is the changing one’s heart the core of discipleship (Deut 6:5,6)?

  3. Is a disciple born or made? Think about the process of maturing as a disciple. How do you recognize a person as a disciple of Christ?

  4. What do you think are the strength of UBF in discipleship and the areas to improve?
