(HQ/PROMO VIDEOS) Introduction to UBF Gap Year Program for Young Generations (English/Spanish/Korean)

Dear UBF mission co-workers,

May the grace of God be always with your family and ministry as you serve the gospel work on the frontline!

UBF HQ World Mission Department has been developing diverse ways to help young people including our 2nd gens. One of them is “Gap Year Program”. Sometimes it is necessary to travel far away from home to meet God personally. There have been many cases among the 2nd gens in UBF community who have received much grace and changed through short-term mission trips. When we leave the familiar environment and go to a foreign country interacting with strangers and cultures in unfamiliar places, we get to think of who I am. As we see the lives and ministry of missionaries who came to other countries with faith, we learn a lot about the kingdom and calling of God.

Like the Korean proverb, “Hardship is a great teacher to us when we are young so people would even pay for it,” living in another country for 6 months or a year at the age of 18-25 will be an experience that cannot be bought with money. They can take a year off after graduating high school before entering college or in the middle of college to reset the direction of our life. This is called the Gap Year, and many young people actually put it into practice and have valuable experiences. Moreover, if it is done under the protection of our UBF chapter so that they can experience the work of God, it will be a precious time that they cannot experience anywhere else. Above all, it can be a turning point in their life to meet your God deeply and accept his calling. In addition, this Gap Year program can benefit the hosting chapters as well. Students participating in the program can actively find things to do and help with many things. Through active participation in the ministry and socializing, they can enjoy themselves and bring positive effects to the hosting chapter.

Until now, these opportunities have been arranged mainly based on personal acquaintances and networks. There was no system to connect Gap Year volunteers and the hosting chapter at the HQ level, and there was no support or education. Because of this, only a small number of people have had this experience. Now, the World Mission Department proposes a more systematic and broader “UBF Gap Year Program”. For this purpose, a Task Force was formed and they have been developing the program for the past 6 months (See the attached proposal for details). Of course, we cannot implement this program right now due to the current pandemic. But we will continue to make necessary preparations during the pandemic so that when we get to travel more freely we can launch the program progressively.

At this point, we are recruiting hosting chapters for the Gap Year Program. If you are interested in hosting Gap Year students, please contact continental representatives of the Gap Year Program Task Force (Their names and contact information can be found below). Also, if you have any questions or suggestion, feel free to contact them. We pray that this program may help many young people, including the 2nd generations, encounter God personally and revitalize our mission fields.

¡Que la gracia de Dios esté siempre con su familia y ministerio mientras sirve la obra del evangelio en la primera línea!

El Departamento de Misión Mundial de la sede de UBF ha estado desarrollando diversas formas de ayudar a los jóvenes, incluyendo nuestra segunda generación. Uno de ellos es el "Programa de año sabático". A veces es necesario viajar lejos de casa para encontrarse con Dios personalmente. Ha habido muchos casos entre la segunda generación en la comunidad de UBF que han recibido mucha gracia y han cambiado a través de viajes misioneros de corto plazo. Cuando dejamos el entorno familiar y vamos a un país extranjero interactuando con extraños y culturas en lugares desconocidos, pensamos en quién somos. Al ver la vida y el ministerio de los misioneros que llegaron a otros países por la fe, aprendemos mucho sobre el reino y el llamado de Dios.

Al igual que el proverbio coreano, "Las dificultades son un gran maestro para nosotros cuando somos jóvenes, por lo que la gente incluso pagaría por ello", vivir en otro país durante 6 meses o un año a la edad de 18 a 25 años será una experiencia que no puede ser comprado con dinero. Pueden tomarse un año libre después de graduarse de la escuela secundaria antes de ingresar a la universidad o en la mitad de la universidad para restablecer el rumbo de nuestra vida. A esto se le llama el año sabático y muchos jóvenes lo ponen en práctica y tienen experiencias valiosas. Además, si se hace bajo la protección de nuestro ministerio UBF para que puedan experimentar la obra de Dios, será un tiempo precioso que no podrán experimentar en ningún otro lugar. Sobre todo, puede ser un punto de inflexión en su vida el encontrar a su Dios profundamente y aceptar su llamado. Además, este programa de año sabático también puede beneficiar a los capítulos de alojamiento. Los estudiantes que participan en el programa pueden encontrar activamente cosas que hacer y ayudar con muchas cosas. A través de la participación activa en el ministerio y la socialización, pueden divertirse y traer efectos positivos al capítulo de alojamiento.

Hasta ahora, estas oportunidades se han organizado principalmente en base a contactos y redes de contactos personales. No había un sistema para conectar a los voluntarios del año sabático y el capítulo de acogida a nivel de la sede, y no había apoyo ni educación. Debido a esto, solo un pequeño número de personas ha tenido esta experiencia. Ahora, el Departamento de Misión Mundial propone un “Programa de año sabático de UBF” más sistemático y más amplio. Para este propósito, se formó un Grupo de Trabajo y han estado desarrollando el programa durante los últimos 6 meses (Ver la propuesta adjunta para más detalles). Por supuesto, no podemos implementar este programa en este momento debido a la pandemia actual. Pero continuaremos haciendo los preparativos necesarios durante la pandemia para que cuando podamos viajar con más libertad podamos lanzar el programa de forma progresiva.

En este punto, estamos reclutando capítulos anfitriones para el Programa de año sabático. Si estás interesado en recibir a estudiantes del año sabático, comuníquese con los representantes continentales del Grupo de trabajo del programa del año sabático (sus nombres e información de contacto se pueden encontrar a continuación). 존경하는 UBF 동역자님들께,

선교일선에서 충성하시는 귀한 동역자님들 한 분 한 분의 가정과 사역에 하나님의 은혜가 충만하기를 기도합니다.

세계 본부 선교부에서는 젊은이들과 2세들을 돕기 위한 다양한 방법을 기획하고 있습니다. 그 중의 하나로 “갭 이어 (Gap Year) 프로그램”이 있습니다. 하나님을 인격적으로 만나기 위해서는 때로는 집을 떠나 먼 곳을 여행하는 것이 필요할 때가 있습니다. 우리 모임에서도 2세들 가운데 단기선교여행을 통해 큰 은혜를 받고 변화되는 예가 꽤 있었습니다. 친숙한 환경을 떠나 낯선 곳에서 낯선 사람들과 문화를 접하며 나는 누구인가를 생각하고, 믿음으로 타국에 오신 선교사님들의 삶과 사역을 보면서 하나님의 나라와 부르심에 대해 많은 것을 배우고 느끼게 됩니다.

‘젊어서 고생은 사서도 한다’라는 한국속담처럼 18-25세의 나이에 6개월이나 1년정도 타국에서 생활해 보는 것은 돈으로 살 수 없는 경험이 될 것입니다. 고등학교를 졸업하고 대학에 입학하기 전이나 대학에 다니는 중간에 휴학을 하고 내인생의 방향을 설정하는 시간을 갖는 것도 좋습니다. 이를 갭 이어 (Gap year)라고 부르며 실제로 많은 젊은이들이 이를 통해 값진 경험을 하고 있습니다. 더구나 그것이 우리 UBF 지부의 보호 속에서 하나님의 역사를 체험하는 가운데 이루어진다면 다른 그 어떤 곳에서도 경험하지 못하는 소중한 시간이 될 것입니다. 무엇보다 나의 하나님을 깊이 만나고 그 부르심을 영접하는 인생의 전환점이 될 수 있습니다. 더 나아가 이러한 프로그램은 선교지에도 유익을 줄 수 있습니다. 갭 이어에 참여하는 학생들은 적극적으로 할 일을 찾아 도움을 드릴 수 있습니다. 적극적인 활동과 교제를 통해 본인도 기쁨을 누리고 호스팅 챕터에도 긍정적인 효과를 가져올 수 있습니다.

지금까지는 이런 활동들이 주로 개인적인 친분과 소개를 기초로 이루어져 왔습니다. 본부 차원에서 갭 이어 자원자와 호스팅 챕터를 연결해주는 시스템이 없었고 별다른 지원이나 교육이 이루어지지 않았습니다. 이로 인해 아주 소수의 사람들만 이런 경험을 해왔습니다. 이제 세계 본부 선교부에서는 보다 체계적이고 광범위한 ‘갭 이어 프로그램’을 제안합니다. 이를 위해 태스크포스를 구성하여 지난 6개월간 구체적인 논의를 하였습니다 (첨부된 제안서에 그 내용이 담겨있습니다). 물론 현재의 팬데믹 상황에서는 해외여행이 제한되어 있기 때문에 당장 이 프로그램을 운영할 수는 없지만 이 기간 동안 더 잘 준비해서 좀 더 여행이 자유로워지면 점진적으로 시행하고자 합니다.

현재 갭 이어 프로그램을 위해 호스팅 챕터를 모집하고 있습니다. 관심있는 챕터는 갭 이어 태스크포스의 각 대륙별 대표자에게 연락주시기 바랍니다 (연락처는 아래에 있습니다). 또한 이 프로그램에 관해 질문이나 제안이 있으신 분들은 언제든 연락주시기 바랍니다. 갭 이어 프로그램을 통해 2세들을 포함한 많은 젊은이들이 하나님을 인격적으로 만나고 또 선교지에도 새로운 활력을 불어넣을 수 있기를 기도합니다.
